College of Teachers

Five dedicated teachers and two kindergaten assistants, committed to education, implement our core education programme. It is the task of the College of Teachers to carry out the spiritual responsibility, and instead of a single headmaster, decisions are reached through consensus.

Weekly faculty meetings are conducted with emphasis on study, children and artistic work. The meetings also serve as a forum for self development and on going training. Regular contact with the Waldorf Federation of Waldorf Schools in South Africa and visits from Federation members to the school, ensures quality in education and teacher training. Overseas visitors are welcomed to the school. New teachers attend training at the Michael Mount Waldorf School in Bryanston. The College of Teachers consists of all the teachers who accept the spiritual and educational responsibility of the school. The College is accountable to the Federation of Waldorf Schools in South Africa, of which the school is a member.

The Village Waldorf School is registered with the Department of Education and all the teachers are qualified as such in teaching.

Support Structure - The Management Council

The Management Council is responsible for the financial and practical running of the the school. Management meetings are held every month. Members are elected at the AGM and members are responsible for different portfolios, which include marketting, fundraising, finance, maintenance and development. An election for new members takes place the Annual General Meeting held each year.

The following is a brief resume for each of the teachers at the school:

Linda Raubenheimer - Grades 5,6 and 7 Teacher

Linda Raubenheimer

Linda is a qualified mathematics teacher with 25 years experience and co-author of 4 mathematics text books. Mother of two sons and a daughter, Linda's prime interest inWaldorf schooling is that it conserves and respects that the child is the focus, not the so called 'future of the child'. Linda completed the two year Waldorf training.

"I have been in close association with the school for nearly seven years. 2009 is my fourth year of being Class Teacher.

The Waldorf system of teaching, roots the child and allows them to reach into the world with confidence and wonder. The extent and depth of the curriculum, connects them with the ancient aspirations of humanity and strengthens their own sense of belonging. The artistic basis of the teaching gives a soul quality to their learning.

After more than twenty years of teaching High School Maths, this little school has shown me what teaching the child is really about. Seeing happy children, who truly enjoy learning, is a privilege and an inspiration and as the Waldorf Curriculum nourishes the child so am I filled and enthused."
